摘要

The process of forming an infestation of Rhyacionia buoliana in a pine (Pinus sylvestris) stand, as well as its degradation, was studied in the Ukraine from the viewpoint of the trophic niche concept. The process began with the emergence of separate'microspots' within the stand. With an increase in the period of infestation, the area of these microspots grew until they merged completely. The process of growth of both the area of the infestation and pest density continued for 15 years, and was followed by a decrease. During all stages of the process, pest attacks followed a contagious distribution. The affected stand stabilised after 20-30 years.
