The Latvian port of Riga is expected to load 100,000t of Russian naphtha this month, a more than fivefold increase on February, traders say. The increase reflects recent rail tariff changes that have made the outlet more attractive. Rail shipments of naphtha from Russia to Riga could hit 130,000t in March, compared with just 18,000t in February, freight forwarders say. Shipping naphtha to Riga by rail from Russia has become more profitable after Moscow equalised tariffs for deliveries to Russian ports and border crossings, from where product can head to foreign ports (NT, February, p1).
