High water, low rates

Tanker freight rates for Turkmen product deliveries to Black Sea ports fell in May-June because of a vessel surplus and high water levels on Russia’s inland waterways. The cost of dirty product deliveries from the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi to the Ukrainian port of Kerch through Russia’s Volga-Don waterway is assessed at $75-85/t, about $7.50/t down on March-April (see lower table). Clean product deliveries along this route are assessed at $72-77/t, or as low as $62-67/t if an older vessel is used.
