West African capacity is to surge by 800,000 b/d to 6.3mn b/d by the end of this year. The bulk of incremental capacity in 2007 will come from new Opec member Angola, which produces mostly heavy sweet crude and is targeting production of 2mn b/d by 2008,compared with 1.4mn b/d in 2006.Nigerian output is lighter than Angola's,so the focus on new streams from the latter will make west African supply heavier this year.Angola's Total-operated acidic heavy sweet Dalia field in block 17 started up in mid-December and should hit full production of 225,000 b/d before the end of this year. The March loading programme implies output of 184,000 b/d of 23 deg API,0.49pc sulphur Dalia.
