Albania hikes electricity exports in Q1

In the first quarter of 2023 Albania witnessed a significant increase in its electricity exports. Data from statistics office Instat show that gross exports, including exchanges, soared to 904 GWh from 373 GWh a year earlier, an increase of 2.4 times. Albania's electricity production is almost entirely from hydropower, meaning the level of output depends on weather conditions. The sector is currently recovering from a drought that seriously curtailed production and forced the country to make costly power imports.
