摘要

Early 1919 was an interesting time in human history, and particularly so in the United States (US). The First World War had just ended and prohibition was just beginning. President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) had recently died in his sleep and an act of Congress had just established most of the Grand Canyon as a US National Park. Big things were also underway in a newly emerging field then-known as industrial hygiene-forerunner of today's Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH). Two of the earliest nationwide surveys of industrial medicine services had just been conducted and published in the Public Health Bulletin and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Bulletin. The first book written specifically for industrial nurses, Industrial Nursing by Florence Swift Wright, had just hit the shelves.
