Polish power companies PGE and ZE PAK set up nuclear power JV

Listed Polish energy giants PGE and ZE PAK inked a deal to establish a 50/50 joint venture to build a nuclear power plant project in cooperation with Korea’s KHNP, the companies said in market filings published concurrently on March 7. Poland – which unlike most CEE countries has no nuclear power capacity at all – plans to build three nuclear power plants by around the mid-2030s to reduce the economy’s reliance on coal. The most advanced project is with the US nuclear technology provider Westinghouse Electric on the Baltic Sea coast, where construction is planned to start in 2026.
