Tanzania's mining resurgence

Tanzania was once considered one of Africa's most secure jurisdictions but a fight between Acacia Mining (now part of Barrick Gold) and the government triggered changes in the country. In 2017, the government, under then-president John Magufuli, banned the export of metallic minerals and sent Acacia a tax bill for billions of dollars after claiming the miner had under-declared its revenue.
