In contrast to the reassuring statements made hitherto by various officials in OPEC member countries,notably Saudi Arabia,the current President of the OPEC Conference,Mr.Purnomo Yusgiantoro (of Indonesia),set the cat among the pigeons by stating that OPEC was no longer in a position to increase its production in order to cool the surge in oil prices.
