Torresol Energy Has Brought the Gemasolar Solar Power Plant in Spain on Stream

Torresol Energy, a joint venture between Masdar (40%) and the Spanish company Sener Grupo de Ingeniera (60%), brought a concentrating solar power (CSP) plant known as Gemasolar on stream in Seville, Spain, on 24 May. It is the world's first commercial CSP plant and includes a reception tower with thermal storage capacity and has started supplying electricity to 25,000 dwellings in Andalusia. The plant should enable carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to be reduced by 30,000 tons/year. Sener supplied the technology, performed the detailed design and engineering as well as part of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) work, and also handled the commissioning.
