US food industry groups question legal authority to mandate front-of-pack labels

FDA may not have the legal authority to move ahead with mandatory front-of-pack (FOP) labeling and if the agency pursues it, it should prepare for legal challenges, said food industry groups commenting on a citizen petition that asked FDA to issue mandatory, nutrient-specific labeling on the front of food packages.
