Consumer groups sue Treasury Department over delayed response to calls for mandatory alcohol labeling

A coalition of consumer groups is suing the Treasury Department to compel the agency to establish mandatory labeling for content, calories, allergens and ingredients in alcoholic beverages. Filed October 3, the lawsuit seeks court-mandated action on a 19-year-old petition, in which consumer advocates had asked the agencies that regulate alcohol in the US to establish a mandatory labeling system for alcohol similar to FDA’s Nutrition Facts labels for foods and beverages.
