Argentine early crop area estimates down 2 for 2022/23 season

The Argentine crop area will have fallen by 2.4% to 38.6 million ha for the present season, according to early estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture. The September survey reveals early intentions of a 3% drop in soybean plantings, which dominate spring sowing, over the next two months to 16.1 million ha. That leads a pattern for the major crops. The survey found that the intention of maize growers is to plant 10.4 million ha, a near 2% fall on last year. The Ministry warns that the estimates may decline further if rains fail to arrive. However, it also anticipates a late maize season to compensate based on"good results in the most recent seasons”. Some 9% of the intended area had been planted by the time of the September 22nd survey.
