Maersk Oil Qatar Acquires Two Giant Tankers for the Storage of Crude from the al-Shaheen Field

Maersk Oil Qatar has awarded two joint contracts to Euronav NV and Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) for the supply of FSO (floating,storage and offloading) services at the offshore al-Shaheen oil field.Euronav points out that the services covered by these eight-year contracts will be provided by two oil tankers,the TI Asia (2002) and TI Africa (2002),which belong to Euronav and OSG respectively."The two double-hulled tankers,which have a gross tonnage of 442,000 dwt,are the largest vessels of their type in the world," explains the company.The contracts call for the ships to be extensively converted.The two companies' FSO services are due to start in July and September 2009.
