US EPA proposes revised PID on methomyl and mitigations

The US EPA has proposed a revision to its 2020 proposed interim decision (PID) on the insecticide, methomyl, detailing mitigation measures to reduce endangered species’ exposure to the insecticide. The revised PID is a pilot case for identifying and proposing early mitigation for vulnerable endangered species through the registration review process, while formal endangered species consultation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service is ongoing, the EPA says. The move initiates one of four strategies identified in the EPA’s 2022 Endangered Species Act (ESA) workplan that was designed to improve protection measures for listed species under the ESA.
