Brandon Bioscience gets EU approval for Sealicit biostimulant

Irish biologicals business Brandon Bioscience's (Tralee) plant biostimulant, Sealicit, has been approved under the EU fertilising products Regulation (2019/1009). The product is designed to physiologically increase pod shattering resistance in oilseed rape and aid in uniform ripening prior to harvesting. The biostimulant works by downregulating the Indehiscent gene (IND), which regulates pod shatter in oilseed rape. When IND is downregulated, lignication in the dehiscence zone (pre-determined breaking point) is reduced. This makes pods mechanically stronger and delays their natural tendency to shatter, the business explains.
