Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC)has received details from the Central Tenders Committee (CTC)of the bids submitted by nine of the 11 companies prequalified to bid for the construction of the 615,000-b/d al-Zour refinery,according to KNPC's Project Manager,Mr.Ahmed al-Jimaz.In remarks to the official Kuwait News Agency (Kuna)on 24 December,Mr.al-Jimaz pointed out that the total value of the bids exceeded the estimated project cost and that they were now being examined.In particular,KNPC will study the reasons for the higher-than-expected prices in order to determine whether they really reflect market trends.If this proved to be the case,added Mr.al-Jimaz,the company would have to review its feasibility study to take account of the higher cost and would submit the results to its parent company,Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC),so it can take a final decision.
