Licensees welcome role played by UK nuclear regulator

At a time when the government is again questioning the role of health and safety regulation, an independent report on the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has highlighted how dutyholders and stakeholders believe they benefit from current regulation1. The findings are based on an online survey that elicited responses from 365 stakeholders (including 229 nuclear licensees) from a database of 1,383 contacts (a 26% response rate), and qualitative in-depth interviews with 16 stakeholders (including 10 licensees). The ONR commissioned Savanta ComRes, a consultancy, to carry out the research. Previous surveys had been conducted by YouGov in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
