EU authorises sixth insect novel food

A sixth insect novel food will hit the EU market on 26 January after the European Commission cleared Ynsect Netherlands (NL) to sell its Alphitobius diaperinus larvae (lesser mealworm) range. The 5 January Commission implementing regulation to the 2015 novel foods regulation (2015/2283), published 6 January in the EU's Official Journal, authorises Ynsect NL's frozen, paste (ground), dried, and powder (ground) forms to be used as a food ingredient in a number of food products for the general population.
