New CAP threatens EU's long-term food security, NGOs warn

A group of NGOs has warned that the EU's new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will fail to deliver for both farmers and nature and jeopardise long-term food security in the bloc. At the end of December, BirdLife Europe, NABU, and the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) released a new report that analysed the environmental credentials of 17 national CAP Strategic Plans. These plans detail the farming policy measures that each EU member state will take in the 2023-27 period and were implemented on 1 January after receiving the European Commission's final approval.
