Figures released Tuesday underscore the stronger health of Japan's steel sector over the past few months, with orders placed in October in most consumption sectors showing firm year-on-year improvements. The Japan Iron & Steel Federation data put total domestic consumption in October at 4.03 million metric tons, up 12% from October 2012, with orders for construction, heavy industrial and electric machinery, automotive and home electronics applications all showing solid growth.
