The new BIO-CEL~? L (BC L) is a smaller version of the BC XL module. The smart design features of the BC XL will then be available at 480-m~2 membrane area per module with stainless steel housing, maximum stability, and 20-percent higher packing density. The BC L will eventually replace the BIO-CEL~? 416, as it offers 20 percent more membrane on basically the same footprint. The company describes its BIO-CEL technology as smart, safe, and simple. Its unique membrane laminate technology is not a hollow fiber or a plate but a hollow sheet. Unlike a plate and frame construction, the BIO-CEL is backwashable like a hollow fiber module to prevent fiber clogging. It is the only module design that can be cleaned mechanically, minimizing chemical demand or even eliminating the use of chemicals.
