South Africa's Transnet invests in locomotive fleet

South African state-owned rail operator Transnet has taken delivery of the first two of 100 locomotives to be used to improve fleet supply on its coal lines. Transnet is purchasing the wagons from General Electric South Africa Technologies (GESAT) - the local arm of General Electric (GE). The locomotives, which are to be used on the coal line and general freight business of Transnet Freight Rail, are part of Transnet's fleet renewal plan and the company's 93.5bn rand ($13.07bn) five-year capital investment programme.
