Veterinary nursing: a role like no other

I REMEMBER at some point in the past century (1997) learning quite by chance that veterinary nurses existed. I'd heard about vets and knew they looked after animals, much the same as doctors do people, but I was completely in the dark about the details.Who answered the phones? Who held the animal's paw when it left its family for the day? Did vets have time to cuddle all the animals, or was that just a myth?A week of work experience at my local vet practice answered most of these questions - and in a great way, too. What's more, during that week I was offered a placement as a student veterinary nurse then and there. I never looked back; it is an absolute joy and honour to work within such an admirable profession. To me the veterinary world is the bee's knees (and bees have a femur, which means they pretty much do have knees).
