Reinforcing the belief that LNG-fuelled vessels could well enter the bulk carrier sector, Oshima Shipbuilding and DNV recently reached a milestone in the development of what Oshima calls its 'ECO-Ship of the future' or 'ECO-Ship 2020'. The ECO-Ship 2020 is an open-hatch bulk carrier (OHBC) with several innovative design solutions. It has been developed as a joint project between Oshima and DNV. Rolls-Royce Marine contributed solutions for LNG engines and propulsion, and Kockums in Sweden and FiReCo in Norway contributed to the development of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) technology.
