DFDS dumps ro-ro newbuilds

Rescue prospects for Germany's insolvent P+S shipyards dimmed last month on news of a contract withdrawal by a major customer. Danish shipping group DFOS has cancelled the DKr1.0Bn ($ 173M) newbuilding contracts for two ro-ro vessels it had ordered at P+S in November 2010, because of multiple contract breaches by the shipyard. Construction of the 195m-long, 3,000-lane-metre capacity vessels started in May 2011 and was supposed to have been completed by the middle of this year. DFDS said it expects full reimbursement of all instalments made so far - all payments to P+S are covered by a refundment bank guarantee, it explained.
