Search for future fuels

In the movement to push LNG as the future fuel for shipping, class societies have been very much to the fore, with DNV, BV and GL being the most vocal supporters. Since the idea was first mooted seriously back in 2010 some projects - such as the GL-supervised conversion of the 25,000dwt product tanker Bit Viking (the largest non-LNG carrier to run on gas) - have come to fruition and more are on the cards. Initially, LR was less active on the LNG front, but it has been far from idle and has been involved in a recent delivery of a ship that is being hailed as innovative. The delivery of the 6,1 00dwt inland chemical tanker Argonon represents a significant milestone for the owner, Argonon Shipping, a subsidiary of Deen Shipping.
