Details of Jolly Diamante, delivered in late 2011, were not available for last year's review but the vessel's technical and commercial importance is too great not to include it in this analysis. Representing the first purpose-designed newbuild investment in the privately owned Genoese company's 90-year history, the 4S,200dwt ro-ro container vessel signalled the start of a new chapter in the development of the versatile fleet serving the Ignazio Messina group's liner network. As a logistics specialist whose interests include terminals as well as ships, Messina's expertise in operating and handling vessels with mixed stows of containers, wheeled freight and other units, in often space-restricted conditions in Mediterranean and African ports, has been brought to bear on the newbuild project so as to secure the best efficiencies in working disparate cargo types.
