Canadian coast guard considers cells

To investigate potential applications of fuel cells for the marine sector, federal government department Transport Canada has initiated a feasibility study to evaluate the costs, benefits, and performance of the technology as part of a hybrid drive system. What is known as an advance contract award notice (ACAN) has been issued for the study to Ontario-based Alion Science Technology Canada. Prior to confirming the order with the pre-identified supplier, the government launched a tender in October this year so as to provide other specialists with an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities for the research.
