Study highlights fouling area differences

A study by Eniram, a Finnish company that specialises in providing decision support solutions for shipowners, has revealed the high cost of hull fouling on cruise ships and confirms that the build-up of fouling varies widely according to where vessels operate. As well as identifying the high levels of fouling faced by the industry, the study indicates differences in build-up in different cruising areas, with the Caribbean causing, on average, the most fouling and Alaska the least. The study also took into account the impact of drydocking on fouling and analysed data from more than 38,000 days at sea, complemented by temperature and salinity databases.
