US needs stronger tank cars sooner: NTSB

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued four urgent recommendations for stronger and more fire-resistant tank cars to move crude and ethanol, calling the performance of the newer-model CPC-1232 cars “not satisfactory.” The agency also criticized Transportation Canada’s 10-year deadline for retrofitting existing cars as too long.
