Political paralysis and the continuing effects of the financial crisis are cutting into Spanish public works projects and hitting demand for bitumen. But the country's production is rising as strong demand in the Mediterranean region boosts exports. Spanish bitumen output was 760,000t in the first four months of this year, up from 640,000t in January-April 2015, according to the country's industry ministry. But falling construction activity and a lack of final investment decisions are weighing on road and house builders. Elections held on 26 June have failed to produce a clear winner, promising further delays in decisions on works programmes.
