Spain to pay European dollar 6.6bn in incentives

Spain will pay a total of European dollar 6.6bn in incentives to its 40GW of renewable and combined heat and power (CHP) plant operators for the 100TWh of electricity that they generated in 2015, according to estimates by grid operator REE. REE's estimates will not be confirmed until the end of 2016 when the final balance for 2015 is published, but they are 7.2pc less than the government expected to pay at the beginning of the year, reflecting the impact of the subsidy cuts and lower than expected demand during the year.
