Spot activity out of the US and Canada remained limited this week,with most available volumes being offered by European utilities.US producers appear content to sit on non-contracted volumes until later in the year when prices are expected to move higher. Spot fob prices were assessed slightly firmer in the southeast US,following gains in the cif ARA price driven mostly by the movement of the 90-day spot window into the fourth quarter. The small but fast-growing UK domestic heating sector continued to pique interest from US suppliers.One east coast producer said it was working on moving product into the UK market in the near future using a freight forwarding agent. Costs are approximately$1500 per 20-foot container, which holds around 25.5t pellets.Premium exports into the Italian market were also expected in the next few weeks, with rates at$1100/container from the southeast US into Genoa and Livorno.
