North American leaders back clean energy target

The US, Canada and Mexico this week said they will generate half of their electricity from clean sources such as renewables and nuclear power by 2025 as part of a plan to help cut North America's greenhouse gas emissions. The leaders of the three countries also promised "close cooperation" between their states and provinces to help support the development of carbon markets in the region. And Mexico said it join the US and Canada in pledging to cut methane emissions from existing oil and natural gas sources by at least 40pc by 2025.
