Domestic biomass tariffs under the UK’s renewable heat incentive (RHI) will be reduced by 20pc, the department of energy and climate change (Decc) said. The degression “super trigger” for biomass was passed, resulting in the domestic biomass tariff of 10.98p/kWh being reduced by 20pc to 8.93p/kWh for all new applications after 1 April. The small non-domestic biomass tariff was degressed by 10pc in January. The degressions occur “if uptake of the scheme is higher than the approved budget,” Decc said. The degressions will not affect existing projects which already receive the tariff, as the aim is to prevent further overspending rather than impact what has already been committed.
