China's EVE, Gem partner on Ni recycling

China's major lithium-ion battery manufacturer EVE Energy will cooperate with Chinese battery material producer Gem on nickel recycling, agreeing to take 10,000 t/yr of recycled nickel products from the latter's battery recycling plant from 2024. Gem will supply nickel products, including sulphate and ternary precursor material, that are recycled from discarded batteries to EVE for 10 years, with a potential expansion of the supply volumes and extension of the contract period. EVE will send nickel-containing discarded batteries and wastes to Gem for recycling, in a move aimed at expanding its global supply chains. EVE plans to also partner with Gem to build recycling plants to boost its battery recycling capacity.
