Tanzania Storage Fees Double

Importers of goods into Tanzania are to pay substantially more in demurrage if they allow their goods to sit too long in the port once they have been offloaded from the ship. In a bid to free up space in its container-handling facilities and to help reduce congestion levels in the port of Dar es Salaam, the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has doubled its storage charges on longer term uncollected inbound containers. Since January 1, 2009, the TPA has introduced a USD40/20ft and USD80/40ft charge on all inbound containers left in the terminal for more than 21 days.
