Development drive

Anew survey commissioned by the Yangtze River Administration (YRA) and partnered by China's Ministry of Transport has revealed aggressive expansion plans of 46 ports along the 6,300km river (see table), the main trade artery in China and leading directly to the industrial interior. All Yangtze ports have been encouraged to upgrade their handling equipment and technology by 2020 as part of a central Government-driven programme, including include tax rebates incentives. They are also one of the major beneficiaries of the Government's CNY4.000 (USD585) billion stimulus package announced in November 2008.
