US intermodal on the rise

US intermodal traffic rose by 3.3% in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2011. Weekly intermodal volumes for June hit the highest volumes for any June on record. This suggests that 2012 will reach the greatest container volumes in history due to the railroads' 'huge' investments, according to the Association of American Railroads (MR). For the first 26 weeks of 2012, US railroads cumulative volumes reached 6,049,730 trailers and containers.
