Carriers close ranks against the might of Maersk

More ocean carriers have joined forces, further suggesting that strength in numbers is seen as the best way to compete against Maersk Line. In addition to the alliances mentioned in 'Mega-consortia pose challenges to shippers' on pp38-40, CSAV has started collaborating more closely with MSC, while CSCL, CMA CGM and UASC have strengthened an existing relationship. CSAV has withdrawn its ABS service between Asia and the Black Sea in favour of chartering slots on MSC's Tiger service. The door has been kept open for the return of the ABS service after the winter season, although who will operate it is unclear.
