Single-frequency 1559-nm erbium-doped fiber laser pumped by a 650-nm semiconductor laser

A single-frequency laser with a a-cm-length erbium-doped fiber and fiber-grating coupler mirrors was operated successfully with a 650-nm semiconductor pump laser. Laser pump threshold was 0.91-mW and 34-mu W output power at 1559 nm was obtained for 6-mW pump power. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America.
