European benzene surprises to the upside.

Earlier in Jan., sources said that European benzene was starting to be overpriced, as it flirted with $1000/mt in week to Jan 13. But while expectations were for a downward correction—the market had fallen into backwardation, and spot prices were well above Europe's Jan. contract price of $842/mt—benzene seems to be continuing to surprise to the upside. Benzene was assessed at $l,090/mt CIF ARA on Jan. 26, a 26-month high.
