According to the World Refining Catalysts market report from consultancy The Freedonia Group global demand for refining catalysts will rise by 3.6/y to 2020, when demand will hit $4.7B. FCC catalysts are poised to experience the strongest growth to 2020 followed by hydroprocessing, alkylation, and reforming catalysts. Most of the increases in refining catalyst demand will come from developing markets (e.g., China, India, Indonesia) as the introduction of more-stringent fuel standards combined with growing demand for refined products in these areas will spur demand growth. Hydrotreating and reforming catalysts will see strong growth in these areas in order to yield lower-sulfur fuels and gasoline with a higher octane value.
