Genscape is protesting the EPA's announced decision to revoke the company's authorization to verify Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs). As reported in Jan. 9 issue of the Digest, the EPA announced on Jan. 4 that Genscape's quality assurance plan (QAP) had allowed "millions of RINs that were fraudulently generated by two companies" to go unchallenged, and that it intended to deauthorize Genscape as an RIN verifier. "Genscape stands by its QAP service," the company said in a statement the next day, arguing that it had—eventually—identified the fraud perpetuated by Gen-X Energy and Southern Resources and Commodities and taken appropriate action. "Genscape firmly believes that purely paper-based audits would have failed to detect the anomalies that formed the basis for its potentially invalid RINs notice of SRC."
