Oil firms still complacent on cyber security.

According to a report from Deloitte LLP, roughly 75 of oil and gas companies were victims of at least one cyber attack in 2016. The company explained that as technologies used by the industry have advanced, opportunities for hackers have multiplied. But security practices have not advanced along with technology, in many cases. Visiting oil fields, Deloitte senior partner Paul Zonneveld said, "was like walking into the 1980s, with shared passwords and passwords written down on paper." The report indicated that less than half of oil companies worldwide use any security monitoring systems at all on their upstream operations networks, and only 14 had what the company described as "fully operational security monitoring centers."
