According to Indian Oil Chairman B. Ashok, the company is planning expansion projects at "most" of its 11 refineries, and plans to increase its total capacity from 1.6MM b/d at present to about 2.0MM b/d 2021 or 2022. The most noteworthy of the projects is an expansion at the Nagapattinam refinery that essentially amounts to me construction of a brand-new plant: the tiny 1MM mt/y (20.0K b/d) facility will be expanded to 9.0MM mt/y (180.0K b/d) in phase one, and to 15.0K mt/y (300.0K b/d) in phase two.
