While countries look to ban diesel vehicles and automakers pivot towards electrics, there is still some hope for diesel vehicles. The head of German auto industry association VDA Matthias Wissmann said he hopes a plan currently being discussed to reduce pollution from older diesel cars will avert planned bans on diesel vehicles in a number of German cities including Munich and Stuttgart. Under the proposed VDA plan approximately 3MM older diesel vehicles in the country would be uploaded with new software to lower NOx emissions by about 25. A meeting between German and regional governments and automakers has been scheduled for Aug. 2 to discuss the plan, specifically who will cover the costs to upload the software.
