China: Report predicts boom in car GPS maps

CHINA'S use of GPS maps in vehicles is expected to soar, according to the China Automobile Industry Association. Last year, vehicle output in the country jumped 20% year-on-year to 2.7 million units. "If 30% of vehicles use electronic GPS maps, each of which is worth Yuan 5,000, car-use GPS maps worth Yuan 10bn (US$1.25bn) will be sold in China in the next three years," said Fan Wenjian, spokesperson of the Shinco company, which started research and development in this area three years ago.
