Evans Voices Optimism About Evolution Of Intellectual Property Rights in China

The recent high court interpretation that further defined China's intellectual property rights law is one positive sign that leaders are serious about correcting a major flaw in trade relations with the United States and other countries, U.S. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans said Jan. 13. While he did not go into specifics on his opinion of the IP rights ruling, Evans did say that he was encouraged by it and other recent actions by China that indicate the nation is putting a mechanism in place to uphold IP rights and copyright protections. But much more is needed, he added. "I get this sense that something is changing. There's a sense of purpose," said Evans, who was in China to discuss other trade matters with top Chinese leaders, said during a speech at a roundtable discussion in IP rights issues.
